PICK OF THE WEEK
Capote. This art-house favorite isn't for everyone, but it offers a unique, refreshing peek into the world of one of America's most interesting and controversial writers. Philip Seymour Hoffman is stunningly good in the title role.
Jar Head. Not your basic war movie, but a haunting visual depiction of the Marine's preparation for the 1st Gulf War. Fine acting and a good ear for the language and attitudes of today's young American warriors. My Marine buddies say it's the real deal.

Dreamer. For my money, the best family flick around. Sue and Jack agree. Very flat marketing kept this from doing as well as it should have.

Saw II is really, really not for everyone…but it's powerful as hell. Remember -- I'm not suggesting you go see this one.

The Weather Man and Shopgirl underwhelmed me, unfortunately. But Steve Martin probably doesn't think that highly of the Alex Cross novels.
