PICK OF THE WEEK
Eastern Promises – Hard to imagine but this is two good suspense stories in a row (Valley of Elah). Viggo Mortensen is absolutely terrific in the part of the up & coming Russian mafia person. The film making is first rate. There isn't a lot of violence, but when it does come, it's extremely graphic.
The Kingdom – I've always been a huge Jamie Foxx fan (especially since he's shown interest in being the next Alex Cross) and he doesn't disappoint here. The Kingdom has been getting great reviews all over the planet and, for once, I won't try to disagree with the critics. My nit-pick is that the storyline is more complex, and occasionally confusing, than it needed to be. And of course, there could have beeen even more scenes with Jamie Foxx.

Across the Universe – Since I was in high school and college throughout the hippie period, I was realy looking forward to this one. It has its moments—mainly some very pretty arrangements of Beatles songs—but mostly, I was disappointed.

The Game Plan – My nine-year-old loved it, and my wife and I were just fine with this one. I think the Rock is actually quite good with comedy. At any rate, this is fine family fair.
