The Concert

The concept's been around for a while, but it's the best movie I've seen this year. Very funny at times, but also hugely emotional and rewarding. Subtitles—if that bothers you.

Madea's Big Happy Family

Tyler Perry is a very talented actor, director and writer, and I can't wait to see him play Alex Cross. Madea's Big Happy Family is very funny, but also moving.

Water for Elephants

This is a very handsome movie, but for me at least it wasn't nearly as good as the book. Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon are absolutely fine, but somehow the chemistry between them didn't quite make it for me.

Scream 4

You know, there's cleverness here, but this is definitely an example of going back to the well once or twice or three times too many.

Fast Five

Makes absolutely no sense—and I mean absolutely no sense—but it's delightful fun. The catch: I am quite sure this movie will be responsible for a couple of teens wrapping their cars around light poles.
