The Lucky Ones

This is the story of 3 soldiers who are wounded in Iraq and come back for a thirty-day leave. It's going to disappear without a ripple. But I thought it was a pretty good story, with very good actors—Tim Robbins, Rachel McAdams and Michael Peña. What struck me most about the film is the caring these soldiers showed one another once they were out in the civilian world. It's something many of us seem to have forgotten about.

The Duchess

What a set of eyes on that Keira Knightley. Nice costumes and manor houses, too. The story should have been more emotional on screen.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

I suspect that this is pretty true to life about the way some teens are in the big cities. But I'll tell you this, my son won't be staying out until dawn while he's still in high school. Getting back to the film, it's very well done.

Appaloosa

I really loved this movie until the final twenty minutes or so. The emotional thrust remained honest and true, but I felt the storytelling flagged just a little. Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen are really terrific in their parts (but it is a cowboy movie).

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

I predicted this would be #1 at the box office and I'll leave it at that.
